Yuan Xiao Jie - Chinese Lantern Festival

Last Thursday (21st of February) was Yuan Xiao Jie which meant more fireworks!!! Some of them almost got the best of me...

The 15th day of the Lunar New Year marks the end of Spring Festival celebrations. Also known as Yuan Xiao, it is regarded as a day of bliss and reunion, as family members and loved ones gather under the first full moon of the Lunar calendar...

On this occasion, we went to "Quanjude" next to the office for another Beijing duck. At this very special time of the year, people usually get together with their family and light up lanterns. A most interesting tradition is the posting of riddles called 'Lantern Riddles'. Riddles are written on pieces of paper and posted on lanterns or walls. Any one solving the riddle is awarded a prize. On this day, people also eat Yuanxiao (元宵) which are sweet dumplings made with sticky rice flour filled with sweet stuffing. This is actually what I had after the massage last week!

The duck was delicious as always and I had a great time. This was the best way to celebrate the end of Spring Festival and the "better-late-than-never-cease-fire"! But as Chinese people say "Chinese New Year would not be Chinese New Year without fireworks"!
